Back from a trip into town -- our town, Jocotepec. Not saying that we go to town to eat but it usually ends up that way. The past two weeks (time flies!) we've experienced the major meals of breakfast, lunch, and dinner in Joco and we've eaten well and spent very little $$ making it the best of both worlds.
Four of us had tacos one evening - 2 each with a choice of beef, al pastor (ham with pineapple) or chorizo and grilled whole onions and peppers and the bill was 40 pesos or $3.64US!! We were more than satisfied with the meals and the bill and have become semi-regulars. You can't eat at home at that price!
We've also enjoyed the week-end only treat of smoked meats at a family run operation on the way out of town. The proprietor is the head honcho of the family and was thrilled with a picture of him in action that I gave him on our second visit.
He is a true entrepeneur giving patrons samples as they arrive -- he smokes whole chickens, different chorizos, pork, lamb, and quail, and simmers goat in a large vat. It's an amazing operation and it's always packed with locals and visitors from Guadalajara. The men of the family prepare the meats, the women cook the tortillas, the young women wait on the tables (beautifully) and the children remove empty bottles and plates from the tables. All done with big smiles and genuinely happy faces. This man is rich beyond measure with the business he owns and the service his family provides. It's a treat to be fed and taken care of by them.
For breakfast we've had huevos rancheros for 25 pesos ($2.25US) which included dos tortillas con dos huevos over easy con arroz y frijoles con ensalada -- muy deliciosa and a healthy and fun way to start the day.
We've lunched on everything from goat (YES and it was delicious!) to hamburguesas and quesadillas and it's all been tasty.

Birria...aka Goat...in a deliciously spicy tomato based broth. A locally popular dish.
Street vendors have lured us with, among other tempting treats, steaming mounds of guasanas -- garbanzos roasted in the pods much like edamame. To die for!! They've got to be healthy, right?
It's good that we're walking between eating adventures or we might become the chubby mOOners
Recuerdos a todos and may all your meals be tasty and fun!
